2 Canton Homes Damaged This Week in Fires

No injuries reported in fires on Wednesday, Thursday in Canton Township.

 

Canton fire crews responded about 9 p.m. Wednesday to a house fire in the 8200 block of Sandpiper, according to a news release from Canton's Public Safety Department.

When crews arrived, flames were visible from the attached garage and second-story bedroom above the garage, the news release indicated. Firefighters made a quick attack on the fire, containing significant damage to the initially affected areas of the home and garage, according to the news release.

At about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, crews responded to another house fire in the 5700 block of Coronation, according to a news release.

When crews arrived, the fire was contained to the basement area and firefighters attacked the fire from inside the house, the news release indicated.

According to the news release, significant damage was contained to the basement, but the fire cause smoke damage throughout the house. 

Two cats were rescued from the house by Canton firefighters, according to the news release.

Both houses were occupied when the fires occurred, but no injuries were reported.

Initial investigations indicate both fires were accidental, the news release said.
