3 Arrested in Canton in Connection With Armed Robbery of Verizon Store

Search for suspects prompted lockdown of four Plymouth-Canton elementary schools.

 

Canton Police arrested three suspects Monday in connection with an armed robbery at a Verizon store on Ford Road, west of Morton Taylor Road, according to a news release from the department. 

Canton Police received a call about 11 a.m. Monday reporting an armed robbery in progress at the retail store, according to the police report. When police arrived at the scene, they received reports of three suspects armed with a semiautomatic assault rifle fleeing south on Oakview in a silver vehicle, the report indicated.

A patrol car in the area intercepted the vehicle at Oakview and Saltz roads, near Flodin Park, and disabled the vehicle, the report indicated. The suspects then fled on foot and were quickly found hiding in a storm cellar adjacent to a house on Willard, according to the report. The suspects were taken into custody.

According to police officials, the department notified nearby Hoben Elementary, which went into lockdown. The district then expanded the lockdown to include three additional schools in Canton—Bentley, Field and Eriksson elementaries—until the search for suspects had ended. The district lifted the lockdown after noon on Monday.

According to police, the investigation is ongoing and information about the suspects will not be release until they are arraigned in court on any potential charges by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Nice job! Very timely posting on this article. I wondered what all the police cars were about when I drove from Palmer to Ford on Sheldon earlier today. I saw 4 or 5 police vehicles. PCCS notified parents of the lockdowns at the schools, and mentioned a robbery, but didn't say that it was at the new Verizon store. Kuddos to the police and the PCCS district for keeping everyone safe!

Really!? I used to attend Canton schools and just a fyi I was able to get more drugs inCanton schools than any other school I have attended. A mini detroit?? Ugh just cuz someone robbed the verizon store. Yes it was a horrible thing but theres stuff like that going on everywhere. And seriously Canton has a whorehouse being ran out of Westpointe Manor and those trailer parks have drugs thruout. Seriously now I think before you make stupid comments like that you should send those finest to these places and have them start cleaning them up!!!

I was disappointed that Miller school was not on lock down considering it was closer to the incident than some of the other schools. I am happy that PCCS schools did take this seriously and I agree the Canton Police are top notch!

EMB - I too instantly thought of Miller and other schools close by, but decided that the authorities knew the suspects were heading south. What I still don't understand is why they didn't lock down Dodson and Workman in an effort to lock down ALL PCCS schools that were south. I don't understand the thought process that would lock down the area south and east (Haggerty) believing that south and west didn't need to be bothered.

And as someone mentionned in the comments to another story, what about the day cares, private schools and charter schools in the area???
