Canton Firefighters Commended for Fighting Blaze

Saturday fire ravages Canton Township home northwest of Warren and Beck roads.

Canton Township trustee Pat Williams commended firefighters for what he called a "phenomenal job" battling a blaze Saturday in the 7200 block of Wadebridge, according to the Canton Observer.

The 3,600-foot home, northwest of Warren and Beck, was not occupied when the fire occurred at about 2:15 p.m. Saturday, but suffered heavy damage, the report said.

Williams told the Observer he lives across the street from the house.

“I thought they did a phenomenal job,” Williams told the Observer. “They certainly saved the homes on either side of the property due to their quick response.”

According to the report, fire officials aren't yet sure what caused the fire.

Isn't this the second time this house has caught fire with no one home?

I think the job our firefighters do is often taken for granted. The quick response to this Canton fire likely saved the homes on both sides of it according to the report. Plymouth Township Trustees are considering a proposal to close a firehall near my home in Lakepointe which worries me a lot. If this happens, the response time for fire fighting crews will be lengthened especially if Hines Drive happens to be flooded putting lives and property in additional danger. It may also increase my homeowners insurance premiums because of the longer distance to the nearest firehall. I am willing to pay a special tax if necessary to keep our Lakepointe firehall open and properly staffed.
