Canton Man Convicted in Infant Son's Abuse
Anthony Sewejkis could face up to 15 years for critically injuring infant son.
Anthony Sewejkis of Canton faces sentencing May 25 after being convicted May 10 of first-degree child abuse for critically injuring his then-four-month-old son, Hunter, on Dec. 7 at the family's Michigan Avenue home, the Canton Observer is reporting.
Sewejkis could face 15 years in prison for the abuse, which caused near-fatal head injuries to his young son, the report said.
Sewejkis had been accused of slamming Hunter's head against the floor while home alone with Hunter, the report said.
Hunter now is home with family members, but remains in state custody as his maternal grandparents go through the adoption process. A benefit was held Saturday to help establish a trust fund for Hunter's care.
The injuries caused brain damage and left Hunter with some loss of vision and mobility. At the time, doctors did not expect Hunter to survive his injuries.
