Canton Names Gregory Sprys-Tellner New Deputy Fire Chief
Sprys-Tellner began new role on Nov. 26, will earn new badge Dec. 11 at Board of Trustees meeting.
After an intensive assessment center process, Fire Captain Gregory Sprys-Tellner has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief, according to a news release from the Canton Township Department of Public Safety.
Sprys-Tellner began his new position on Nov. 26, and is scheduled to formally receive his new badge at the Canton Board of Trustees meeting on Dec. 11, according to the news release. Sprys-Tellner, 46, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Clearly University.
Sprys-Tellner was hired on to the department in 1987 as a Firefighter, and was promoted to Captain in 2010.
During his career he earned his paramedic license and has received numerous fire investigation certifications while assigned to the Fire Prevention Unit as an Inspector, the news release stated.
In his new role as Deputy Fire Chief, Sprys-Tellner will assume the duties of Fire Marshall overseeing the Fire Prevention Unit.
He also will be responsible for executing the department’s extensive fire service and paramedic training programs.
The Deputy Chief position also assists the Fire Chief with administrative tasks and projects as needed.
“The Deputy Chief position has grown to become an integral component in Fire Administration, and I am confident Greg will excel in his new assignment,” said Fire Chief Josh Meier in the news release.
Deputy Chief Sprys-Tellner has been married to his wife Jennifer for 22 years, and they have three children, Thomas 15, Zachary 13, and Olivia 11.
