Canton Officer Intercepts Bridge Jumper on Joy Road
Officer rescues man who intended to jump off I-275 overpass in suicide attempt.

Thanks to the quick actions of one Canton Police officer, a life might have been saved late Sunday in Canton.
A police officer responded at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday to the area of Joy Road and the Interstate 275 overpass for a report of someone leaning over the rail, according to a news report from the department.
When the officer arrived at the scene, he saw a man standing on the bridge facing over northbound I-275, the news release indicated. He had one leg up on the rail and was looking at his phone, according to the news release.
When the man noticed the officer, he put his phone in his pocket and stepped on to the rail with his other leg, the news release indicated. The officer tried to get the man to speak with him as he slowly approached, but the man would not acknowledge the officer.
Finally, when the officer was close enough, he lunged forward, grabbed the suspect by his coat and pulled him off the railing, the news release indicated.
The officer secured the man and spoke calmly with him, and the man told the officer he had intended to jump off the bridge in an attempt to commit suicide, the news release indicated.
