Canton Township Police are investigating two accidents Wednesday, one of which was fatal.

According to a news release, Canton police and fire responded at about 5 a.m. to a report of a single-car accident in the parking lot of Windsor Woods Apartments at Warren and Morton Taylor roads.

Police found a car crashed into a parked vehicle at the apartment complex's parking area, the news release said.

The driver, identified only as a 55-year-old man who lived in Canton, was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Police and firefighters responded at about 7:08 a.m. to a second crash on eastbound Michigan Avenue west of Canton Center Road, the news release said.

According to the news release, a vehicle had been traveling westbound on Michigan Avenue and entered the divided median turnaround and was struck by a tractor-trailer as it turned left onto eastbound Michigan Avenue.

The driver, a 53-year-old Belleville woman, was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, the news release said. 

The driver of the tractor-trailer was treated and released by paramedics at the scene, the news release said.

According to the news release, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in either accident and the circumstances leading to both crashes remain under investigation.

Police are not yet releasing the names of the drivers.
