Canton Police Recover Heroin After Shoplifting Incident at Walmart
The following information was provided by Canton Township Police. Arrests do not indicate convictions.
When police arrived, they spotted the store’s loss prevention officer with a woman who was crying, both standing outside the west entrance doors, the report said.
The store’s loss prevention officer told police he saw the woman select nail polish and a hair clip from a shelf and place the nail polish in her purse, the report said.
The loss prevention officer told police he stopped the woman to escort her to his office and she told him, “I’m not going anywhere with you,” and attempted to leave the store but was blocked by the employee, the report said.
The woman told police she forgot she placed the items in one of her two purses, the report said.
While searching the woman’s two purses, police found a partial receipt folded up into a square shape, which the report indicated is a common method for concealing heroin.
Police handcuffed the woman on suspicion of heroin possession, the report said, and the woman told police the substance was crushed Vicodin.
A police dog that arrived at the scene signaled the substance was a narcotic, and a subsequent field test indicated a positive result for opiates, the report said.
