Charges Dismissed in Death of Canton Infant
Mother will not face charges in case involving stillborn baby.
Criminal charges against a 20-year-old Canton woman accused of wrapping her stillborn baby in towels and a garbage bag were dismissed Friday, according to the Canton Observer.
Judge James Plakas ruled Friday at 35th District Court that Dunklee should not face charges of disinterment or mutilation of a dead body, the report indicated.
According to the report, authorities said Emily Dunklee, 20, of Canton hid her pregnancy from what defense attorneys described as a strict Catholic family because she did not want her parents to know she was carrying a child.
The charges alleged that Dunklee wrapped the infant in towels and a garbage bag and left it on a deck outside the home she shared with her parents, where her father later discovered the body.
