Runners at Canton Liberty Fest on Saturday attempted to break a Guinness World Record for largest gathering of people dressed as a national landmark.

A group of costumed runners might have set a world record Saturday morning at Canton Liberty Fest in Heritage Park, based on a preliminary count by organizers.

The race, which had more than 600 registered runners, pursued a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as a national landmark. Each runner received a three-piece Statue of Liberty costume.

The existing record, race organizers said in an email before the race, is 250.

After the face, the organizers said it appears the group shattered the requirement to secure the record.

"According to our preliminary count, we smashed the requirements," race organizer Running Fit posted on its Facebook page.
