Crime Report: Woman Arrested on Charges of Stealing from Walmart
The following information was provided by the Canton Township Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.
Canton Township Police were dispatched May 23 to Walmart, 39500 Ford Road, for a report of two people taking merchandise from the store, according to a police report.
The store’s loss prevention officer told police he saw a female in the fashion accessories department selecting merchandise apparently not even looking at the price, the report said. Finding this suspicious, the loss prevention officer told police he continued to monitor the woman as she walked to the sunglasses area and put a pair of glasses and headphones into her purse, the report said.
He told police he then saw the woman put three types of perfumes and some rings into her purse before exiting the store without paying, the report said.
The loss prevention officer told police he stopped the woman and escorted her to his office, where she attempted to conceal syringes, which he said appeared capped and unused. Police determined the needles were for a medical purpose and were returned to the woman’s male companion.
Police searched and arrested the woman on charges of third-degree retail fraud, and recovered two more boxes of perfume and additional jewelry, the report said. She faces a June 6 court date at 35th District Court in Plymouth.
The male had been detained for concealing a 20-ounce bottle of soda, but was released without being charged, the report said.
Police respond to suspected home invasion attempt
Canton Township Police responded May 21 to the 39000 block of Warren Avenue for a delayed report of an attempted home invasion, according to a police report.
The residents told police they travel to Florida each year and observed pry marks on the rear door upon their recent return, the report said.
Because of the length of time the home was vacant, the report said, the case was closed because police have no suspects.
