Five Things You Need to Know, Nov. 12, 2011

Women's Expo, WSDP Pledge Drive and Turkey Trot for a Cause registration.

1. WSDP Pledge Drive

Today is the last day to make a pledge to Plymouth-Canton Educational Park's student radio station 88.1FM. The student broadcasters are hosting special guests, playing unique music, delivering news and talking sports.

In exchange for your donation, you will receive an 88.1FM Logo pack with pen, button and bumper sticker ($15); a ticket to a Plymouth Whalers game plus and 88.1FM travel mug ($40); a pair of tickets to see A Christmas Carol at Trinity House Theatre in Livonia in December ($88); a one hour radio show on WSDP — you select the music and serve as host ($365); a spot on WSDP's honor wall outside and all of the previously mentioned items ($1,000).

2. Women's Expo

Canton's 2011 Women's Expo is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Summit on the Park, 46000 Summit Parkway. Nearly 50 vendors will showcase jewelry, skin care, accessories, gifts, food and home decor.

3. Volunteer for Historical Museum

Canton Historical Society is recruiting volunteers for its 2012 fundraisers. You can help with a fashion show or Beer, Brats and Bands at the Barn or a completely new event. Requirements: Enthusiasm and willingness to participate in planning. For details, visit www.cantonhistoricalsociety.org or call 734-397-0088.

4. Bloggers Wanted

If you have a hobby — or are responsible for getting news out about your community group or project — consider starting a blog at Canton Patch. Join the nice folks in Canton who write about the Plymouth-Canton Marching Band, exchange student experience, support for our neighbors in assisted living homes, a realtor and a fitness buff. Interested? Email Canton Patch editor Peg McNichol at peg.mcnichol@patch.com for guidelines.

5. Turkey Trot for Epilepsy Research

Registration is open for Canton's 9th Annual Turkey Trot, which benefits epilepsy research. The 5k run/walk at Heritage Park steps off from The Summit at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. Entry fees are $25 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under. Register online at csc.canton-mi.org, in person at Canton Sports Center, 46555 W. Michigan Ave., or by phone at 734-483-5600.
