Five Things You Need to Know, Oct. 29, 2011

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, Haunted Horns 7 and Canton High boys soccer team plays Ann Arbor Pioneer.

 

1. Pitch Those Old Pills

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is this week. Anyone who wants can turn in expired, unused and unwanted prescription medications to law enforcement for proper disposal. Drugs may be placed in a drop box located at the Canton Police Department's lobby between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. today at the Canton Police Department, 1150 S. Canton Center Rd. No questions will be asked. Pills only; no liquids or needles will be accepted.

2. Haunted Horns 7

The Seventh Annual Halloween Benefit Concert for First Step of Canton is a family friendly event at 3 p.m. at Village Theater at Cherry Hill. Come as you are or in costume. (Dressed up people can win prizes.) Dance with the Canton Concert Band or hum along. Organizers are saying admission is on a donation-only basis, the whole evening benefits Canton's domestic violence shelter, First Step.

3. See 'Fox on the Fairway'

P-CEP Park Players are staging Ken Ludwig's "The Fox on the Fairway" at 7 p.m. today (and again on Nov. 3 through 5) at the DuBois Little Theater in Canton High School, 8415 N. Canton Center Rd. Producers describe the play as "a charmingly madcap adventure about love, life, and man's eternal love affair with … golf."

The curtain rises on all shows at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased outside the DuBois Little Theatre from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

4. Donate Food to Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Plymouth Corps has issued an appeal for help is hosting or sponsoring a food drive. The Salvation Army needs non-perishable, non-expired foods and toiletry items for the holiday food pantry. For details on how to help, email Laurie Aren at laurie_aren@usc.salvationarmy.org.

5. Canton Boys Soccer

The 2011 District 5 Soccer Champs, Canton High Chiefs, are scheduled for a match against Ann Arbor Pioneer at 1 p.m. today at Saline High School, 1300 Campus Pky. (There's also a U-M football game today, so beware of heavy traffic.) If you plan on cheering on the Chiefs and want to find restaurants, gas stations, etc. check out the resources at Saline Patch.
