Canton residents Terri and Michael Murray appeared more than merely happy after the 9th annual Turkey Trot, on Thanksgiving morning at Summit on the Park. After all, more than 900 people participated in the annual 5k fun run, which helps fund epilepsy research.

Epilepsy is a seizure disorder caused by the brain's irregular electrical activity. About 2 million Americans have some form of epilepsy, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

Canton's annual Turkey Trot raises money but volunteers like the Murrays, who founded the Turkey Trot, also help raise awareness. If you'd like to learn more -- or help support the research effort -- call 800-377-6226 or visit www.epilepsymichigan.org.
