Have Faith? Win Tickets to Mitch Albom Movie Premiere

Nov. 16 event at the Emagine in Royal Oak will benefit two local charities. Just tell us about faith to enter to win.

Do you have a little faith? If so, you might want to enter our contest to win two tickets to the premiere of Have A Little Faith, based on Mitch Albom's best-selling nonfiction book.

The movie, which was filmed in Detroit, is described as being about a life's purpose; about losing belief and finding it again; about the divine spark inside everyone. The story was sparked by a request made of Albom to deliver the eulogy at a rabbi's funeral, which prompted him to to do some soul-searching.

Actors Laurence Fishburne, Bradley Whitford and Martin Landau are expected to attend the premiere on Nov. 16 at the Emagine theater in Royal Oak. Winners of the Have a Little Faith contest will receive general admission tickets to the premiere as well as an autographed copy of Albom's book.

After the screening, the movie's stars, director Jon Avnet and Albom will discuss the film. Contest winners will be able to view the "talk back" in the theater in which they watched the movie via simulcast from the VIP theater.

Those who would like to rub elbows with the cast at a meet-and-greet reception with food and beverage, view the movie, enjoy the live "talk back" and receive a signed book can purchase a VIP ticket for $125. Proceeds benefit A Hole in the Roof Foundation and the Rabbi Albert Lewis Fund.

For more information about the premiere, visit Emagine's website

I already have VIP tickets, but I have a friend that would like to come along with us. She and her family have been going through extreme hardship due to a recent automobile accident involving a daughter with special needs. She can't afford a ticket, but her pride won't allow her to let me purchase one for her. She said if it is meant to be she'll be there. If that isn't FAITH I don't know what is.

thanks, my friend :) This may be how it could 'be'! Although I wasn't raised with any religious education, God has always kept me near....starting with being invited, as a young girl, to play piano at a small non-denominational church, with services held in a barn. Sorting through letters from around the world requesting rosaries, and along with many others, making rosaries....all before I would understand or even say the rosary. And most of all, surrounding me with wonderful people who show me that life is better with a little faith.

Faith sustains in the face of loss and tragedy and strengthens in times of fear and uncertainty. It inflates balloons with joy in celebrations of love and friendship and family and discovery. Faith flourishes when shared but becomes strongest by far when exercised together with those who seek to do His will for those whom He loves most.

Faith-based community services are the best way to match donated time, talent, and treasures with those who have a true need. Those who volunteer are often blessed with intangible rewards on earth; and certainly reap their heavenly rewards when that time comes.

My faith has been inspired numerous times by 2 men of God from Detroit World Outreach. Beloved Bishop Jack Wallace and Bishop Benjamin Gibert, both have testimonies upon testimonies of how God has brought them through. From impovershed upbringings, to poor personal choices, financial hardships, educational decisions etc. each time they turned to God and each time God came through. I have learned so much from them sharing their testimonies of faith! I thank God for them.

"...and certainly reap their heavenly rewards when that time comes..."

CERTAINLY? Or you presume so based on your belief system.

Faith is a 70 year old woman by the name of Lillie Skinner, who has for many years feed and clothed the homeless in Detroit. I have witnessed and personally worked with Ms. Lillie for 8 years and I have watched how passionate and diligent she is when it comes to serving others. Her means are low but her faith in God is high. She operates on sheer faith when it comes to taking care of others. Everyday is a challenge for her to spend countless hours preparing nutritional, home-cooked meals for homeless shelters nearby. Last month, the facility where she works electricity was cut off, which happened to be a very cold month in Detroit. However, she did not let the homeless go without because of this. She was outside in the cold using a bar-b-q grill to cook the meals. She didn't know how the lights were gonna be turned back on but it did not prevent her from serving others. Her faith in God has brought her through many tough times in her life and she was not about to give up now. She has demonstrated what faith looks like in the midst of trials. She was diagnosed with diabetes a couple of years back and since then she started feeding the homeless healthy foods to sustain them. She has a great, big ol' heart for others and her faith is so strong that its infectious to those around her. I can only pray that I have have of what she's got.

Rock On Lillie! , thanks for letting us know about this wonderful, generous soul. The ultimate reward isn't movie tickets.

itch Albom's book Have a Little Faith is very well written. As for myself, it was my mother's illness with cancer that brought me closer to the Lord. I don't believe I would have persevered through her illness and ultimately, her untimely death (isn't all death untimely?) without that faith.

I work as a Secretary at a non-profit, inter-faith counseling center called Samaritan Counseling Center based in Farmington Hills. I am the first person people talk to when seeking counseling. I give them hope, and help them find the perfect counselor for their issue and faith. We have Christian, (several denominations), Jewish and Musilm counselors with various specialties, some of which are religious leaders in their faith. Every day I talk to people that are in dire situations and I offer them a calm and faithful ear. We offer low cost counseling for all of God's people, and sadly business has never been better, I am proud to work for such a giving organization.

My faith amongst tragedy has served as a testimony to so many after having lost both my parents to sudden illnesses and the tragic unexpected death of my young husband over a 5 year span. Through prayer and believing in God's word to provide love, protect, comfort, be a father to the fatherless and promise (For I know the plans I have for you), I chose to be a survivor relying on God to carry me through to fulfill my life according to his will. Despite our losses, I wanted to give my son a happy childhood and plant the seed of faith in him.

After my first marriage ended and I was left alone with a son and had absolutely nothing to call my own, I had Faith that my soulmate was out there somewhere and I will one day find him without een searching too hard. I DID indeed meet him by chance as if he just dropped from the sky onto my lap, we are now married (5 years), he brought me to America, have another son together, I "own" more than I could have asked for, and living the American Dream - all because I had FAITH that I would get a 2nd chance at a good life !

We are big Mitch Albom fans and have read all of his books. What a fantastic opportunity ! Faith for our family means having God in your life foremost. Those that are not spiritual can still have great faith though. Maybe sometimes having faith isn't so obvious. Faith sometimes requires digging really deep inside yourself to overcome tragedy or an addiction, to admit mistakes or repair a marriage and to become a better person in a new way. My kids said having faith "can mean that our world can be a good place and that people can be nice and helpful, not always what you hear on TV." Whether we win or not- we are enjoying reading all of the responses and it's good to stop and think of what Faith may mean to you.

"Faith" is believing in something without needing any proof that it exists.

Kahlil Gibran said, “Faith is a knowledge within the heart, beyond the reach of proof.” Faith, to me, then is something within yourself in mind and heart. However, its tangibility is revealed in words & deeds.

I was raised in a Catholic family and saying the rosary was always very much encouraged. With prayers we are communicating with our angels and higher beings for guidance . I believe miracles can come true. Faith is a belief that is challenged in times of turmoil. We must try to keep hope and love in our hearts. Life as we know it isn't always fair and while we are on earth we should try to help others that need it when we can. Do what you know in your heart is right and true and someday it will come back to you.

Volunteering with a faith-based community service organization is a wonderful way to show your faith in action. The satisfaction of knowing that your time and effort will positively impact someone's life is worth more than words can express. Faith in action shows God's love for all through us. I believe that serving and loving others is the reason we exist.

I have a tremendous amount of Faith and don't think I would have gotten thru life without it; that and my wonderful mother, and awesome friends. My father committed suicide approx 6 yrs ago and I was devastated. My world was turned upside down. God, and faith, having hope, being positive, and having faith that my dad is happy and healthy, and in heaven is what has gotten me thru this terrible tragedy. I hope to be able to see this amazing movie! :)

Hello, my name is Alley. I am 16 years old and devote my life to following Jesus! I hope that one day I can become a youth minister, so that, one day I can teacher other kids the love of God and show them what Jesus did for us like I have learned. I work with three, four, and five year olds every week at church. This is my passion and my true calling from God, also, it is the first step to a life of preaching His Truth. :)
