Lockdown Lifted for 4 Plymouth-Canton Schools After Police Situation
Armed robbery at Verizon store prompts lockdown of schools in area.
A lockdown for four Plymouth-Canton elementary schools following a police situation has been lifted, according to P-CEP Interim Director of Community Relations Mary Holaly.
Bentley, Field, Eriksson and Hoben elementaries were locked down while police searched for three armed individuals in the area wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a Verizon Wireless store at Ford and Sheldon roads that occurred at about 11 a.m.
Canton Public Safety notified the school district about the situation and advised that the nearby schools go into lockdown. The elementaries were on lockdown from about 11:30 a.m. to noon.
"Our first priority is student safety," Holaly said.
Once the schools were secured and internal staff were notified, the district notified all parents in the district by sending out an automated phone call.
The lockdown was lifted after Canton police caught the suspects near Oakview and Saltz roads.
"We're really grateful for our relationship with Canton Public Safety," Holaly said. "They do a great job and they always keep our children's safety in mind."

Not that I'm the least bit against erring on the side of caution in issuing the lock down, but the schools chosen to be locked down have me scratching my head. The incident was at Ford and Sheldon. It was obviously known that the suspects were heading south. I wonder how it was decided to lock down schools as far as Haggerty, but not Dodson (or Workman which I don't think should have been locked down).

Most criminals head for major escape routes like I-275 which would take them toward Haggerty. Better safe than sorry.

If I was already going south on Sheldon trying to get to a major route, my first thought would have been to get to Michigan Ave.
