PCEP Student Cited on Drug Paraphernalia Charge

The following information was provided by Canton Township Police. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Canton Township Police responded March 1 to the main office of Canton High School for a report of marijuana use, according to a police report.

A security officer at the campus told police she was informed by a student that the Plymouth High School boys bathroom smelled like marijuana smoke and security footage showed two male students in the area at that time, the report indicated.

One of the students identified in the video, who was inside Canton High School, was questioned and told administrators he and another student were going to the book room, stopped in a bathroom on the way there and the other student entered a stall and proceeded to smoke marijuana before both students headed to the book room.

Administrators searched the student’s backpack and found a pipe resembling a cigarette, cigarette wrapping papers and a CVS bottle, prompting administrators to call police.

The Canton officer at the scene reported smelling what resembled marijuana from the pipe and opened the CVS bottle and found some small green flakes he believed to be marijuana.

Police cited the student on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. The school issued the student a four-day suspension.

The second student, who was located inside Salem High School, was brought down to the school’s security office and told a security guard he had smoked marijuana in the bathroom, but said the other student had provided the marijuana and pipe. The school suspended the student for four days for being under the influence of drugs.

Only suspended for 4 days? I never really understood the idea of suspension. It's really giving the kids vacation time away from school. And that's supposed to be punishment?
