Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Photo Contest: Show Us Your Patch of Michigan and Win!

Show off your finest photos, from Up North to your own backyard. We'll award weekly prizes for the photos that say "Michigan" in content, tone and spirit.

Michiganians have a love affair with their state. From Up North to their own backyards, Michigan has an allure that cannot be denied.

Why not share your visions of Michigan in photos in our Your Patch of Michigan photo contest, and possibly win a prize for doing so?

For the next eight weeks, we'll pick a winner every week based on voting by a panel of Michigan Patch editors. Each weekly winner will get a prize.

For the week of July 24-30, the prize is a $30 gift card to Al Makan Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant in Clawson.

After Sept. 17, we'll pick a grand prize winner from all of the weekly winners.

The grand prize winner will receive a certificate for a two-night stay at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island (to be used before Oct. 31, 2012, and blackout dates and other restrictions may apply).  The approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $500.

Do you need to be Ansel Adams to win this? No. The single qualification for photos you send is that they say "Michigan" to you. If it oozes "Michigan," it qualifies.

Here's how you can enter: We have a few photos here to start things out. To add your own images, first become a registered Patch user if you aren't already, then add to the gallery on this page.

Each week, we'll have a new gallery and a new winner.

Be sure to include your real, full name and the place where the photo was taken, as well as any other relevant information about what they photo shows. The email address you use to register must be a working one so we can reach you should we have questions — or should you be selected as a winner.

All photos must be posted each Saturday by midnight to be judged for that week; the first week's photos will be judged from today through July 30. The contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older. And this wouldn't be a contest without a complete list of official contest rules; you can read them here. Please, no more than three (3) entries per person per week. The winner will be selected each Monday, and must respond to notification within 48 hours.

If you aren't quite sure how to upload a photos, check out our step-by-step guide to uploading photos to Patch. If you still have trouble or have questions, email Associate Regional Editor Beth Valone at beth.valone@patch.com.

Hey Brenda! Your Bond Falls pic is beautiful. I have many like it. Horserace Rapids are right down the street from my place in Crystal Falls! Little-known places to most people. I'm glad I'm not a judge! Too many gorgeous photos!

Wow, someone else who is familiar with the western part of the U.P. - yay! :) My family is originally from the area (iron miners, back in the day), and I think the U.P. is one of the most gorgeous places in the world. :)

A friend of mine said I should post here, so I submitted one of (MANY) photos of my favorite Michigan animal... seagulls. lol I love those pesky little critters. They truly embody living on the great lakes to me.

What great photos and so many! I wouldn't want to have to choose just one although I am partial to the boy and his dog in the Tawas bay.

500+ pictures, be nice if it was broken down into, Kids, pets (animals) scenery etc. and what ever else, how does one know if the kid and his dog is in mich? could be any big lake, Not saying it isn't Mich. But it would be really nice in a Kids Catergorey, an actor once said, don't follow a kids or animal act on stage, you will never win. My pictures from visits on fr8ters, wht most never can do, the moon, the bow light, and not a ripple, only the distent hum of a far away engine, to get the Moon you know the boat had to be running smoooooth, for the time of opem app. I think I am going to post one coming up to the bridge..

Thanks for the suggestion on breaking them up, Michael. When we started this contest, we never dreamed we'd get 500+ entries in just one week. It's a testament to how much people love this state and want to show off their favorite Michigan moments and memories. As we sort through the images we get, we will try to present them in a way that allows everyone to enjoy the beautiful photos being sent our way. Keep them coming, everyone! Week 2 has begun!

Sandra, if you successfully loaded your photos they show up right away. I do see yours, but they are in the "wrong" photo gallery. You want to upload them to Week 3. I'll send you a link.

Just uploaded some pictures from my work in Saint Clair Shores of the lake and the sunrise. More to come hopefully. The best part of having to work up at 6am is the sunrising over the water. It can turn a bad day into an amazing one!

I just came across a silhouette photo of a young man "holding" the sun. It's caption was: My son having a funner with the sun. Credit: michael J. Michael J, are you having a funner with us?! Are you trying to take credit for this photo that is on the internet already?!! Just google "holding the sun" images and you will see it many times!! Nice try!!

Jenn: the pic. that was sent was by mistake, that is so on the net. most photog's have seen it, MY SON did do a few of like shots, there is no place in Michigan where that pic.should of seen was from the east shores of Houghtom lake, the one you sere has construction or buildings, on the shore, we have noi such place. I have 3 external hard drives of pictures, in the beginning I was poor in organizing the drive, I put quite of few pic's on the patch upoading board, I wrote My son, cause that is what the neg. said, haveing poor sight, I uploaded the wrong one, not the one of MY SON, I will take credit for the pic. we had fun taking, sorry I did not know how to undo what was done. I did put an enormouse anount of pic's in, to show rookies some ideas on what they could try and do this summer. I do take pic's of Mich. but not on a one week vac. I do a lot when there is single digit temps, and 4 ft of snow. so you are eroneous on any supicion on using a fake pic. although that pic was used as an idea, to do our own, ny son is now 41 this is a kid looks like to me. I did ask that there be sep. div. for pets, children, etc............. most of the pic's one could challenge if from michigan, not saying there not, but had activities being done, did not show Michigan as she is.............

Hello! I love your idea about posting photos of Michigan! However, your uploader is, well... just very hard to use. I upload Photos to Snapfish, Flicker, Facebook and others with no problem. Perhaps you could simplify the process to upload.

Thanks for the feedback Marilyn. Can you be specific about what steps in the uploading process are difficult? We want to make the experience a good one for everyone.
