Plymouth Apartment Fire Started in Kitchen, Fire Chief Says

Officials believe the fire was an accident.

A fire that destroyed a Plymouth apartment building last week is believed to have started in a kitchen, according to an article in the Observer & Eccentric.

The fire at Lake Pointe Village Apartments, located south of M-14 and just west of Haggerty Road, caused major damage and killed several of the residents' pets Thursday. No humans were injured in the fire.

Officials still do not know an exact cause of the fire, according to the Observer & Eccentric, but Chief Mark Wendel of the Plymouth Community Fire Department said they believe it was an accidental fire based on their investigation.

Officials believe the fire started in the kitchen of a second-floor unit, though they were unable to pinpoint exactly where in the kitchen.

Plymouth Township Fire Chief Mark Wendel told Patch last week that the fire then spread to the attic and to another attached building.

"Once it got up into the attic, it just took off from there," Wendel said. "So it was just a matter of trying to catch it. That was the problem."

An estimated 16 apartment units were affected by the fire.
