Plymouth-Canton School Board Appoints Kim Crouch as Trustee

The Plymouth-Canton Board of Education on Tuesday appointed Kim Crouch as trustee.
Crouch will fill the vacancy left by former board member Barry Simesecu, who resigned in January, citing increased responsibilities at work.
Crouch, a General Motors attorney and mother in the district, was one of four finalists who interviewed Tuesday with board members. The other finalists included Julie Rowe, Jeff Ames and Brian Jansen.
"I'm excited to be on the board," Crouch said. "It's a good opportunity to have more parental input on the board."
Crouch praised the other candidates seeking the seat.
"I thought that they had really good candidates," she said. "It was just kind of a matter of what they were looking for and who they thought would fit, and I thought I had things to offer from having three kids in the district to being an attorney to having been really involved in the community."
Crouch said she brings a collaborative work style to the board.
"If I have to disagree, I do it without being disagreeable," she said.

Nothing personal but the problem with many school boards is that they are overpopulated and represented by attorneys. The Board has attorneys on staff. I think we send the message that if you are not an attorney, for some reason you are less qualified to serve on such Boards. Being an attorney is not an overriding qualification, but we seem set in that mindset. Also while it is nice to have kids in the district, do we want a Board that has nothing but attorneys and parents? Many residents who vote on Bond issues have neither. Disregard them at your own peril, especially during Bond elections.

Is she going to be pushing an African American agenda? Will she be trying to push her personal views into the public? I do not trust someone on our board who chooses to participate in single-race activities.

I read through her website. And I have to admit, it makes me nervous that she has a platform that only encompasses the interests of a single race community. In fact. I am not sure if someone from my Indian community had a single race agenda, it would be appropriate for a community that prides itself as being diverse. That type of mindset is simply outdated for this area, considering there are multiple races that flourish within the community. It only represents an old-school, self-serving attitude that has been a road block for progression. This is not the community for such a devolved agenda. Thank you, "someone" for posting her website. I think there should be a reconsideration for her appointment.

I noticed Kim took down her web page yesterday. I also noticed she’s working on updating it today. (Kim must have agreed with me without being agreeable.)
