Plymouth Easter Egg Hunt Planned for Saturday

Children up to 11 years old are invited by the Plymouth Lions Club to attend the 10 a.m. event at Plymouth Township (McClumpha) Park.

This Saturday, the Easter Bunny will be busy: There will be about 9,000 candy- and prize-filled eggs hidden at the baseball fields in Plymouth Township Park, also known as McClumpha Park.

The Plymouth Lions Club is hosting its third annual Community Easter Egg Hunt starting at 10 a.m. at the park. The free, one-hour event is open to any child up to 11 years old.

Heather Rau from the club said last year's event drew about 400 children.

“It’s definitely a loud, kid-friendly time,” Rau said. “There’s going to be candy in the eggs and tickets for prizes. There will also be coffee for parents, donated by Caribou Coffee, and water donated by Busch’s.”

The eggs will be hidden in the outfields of four baseball fields. The children are separated into four age groups, one for each field. The age groups are up to 3 years old, 4 to 6, 7 and 8 and 9 to 11. Families are encouraged to bring baskets or bags to help in gathering the eggs.

“When the Easter Bunny gives the start sign, they can go out and start getting the eggs," Rau said. "They can grab as many as they can, but we ask that with the real little ones that only one parent goes out with them, to be fair.”

She said about 25 of the 82 Plymouth Lions members will meet for a few hours Thursday to put the candy and tickets in the eggs. At the event, the Lions will have a table for the children to bring the tickets to redeem for prizes, such as Nerf toys.

“We’ve got some good prizes,” Rau said.

“The Lions work really hard all year-round helping raise money for the Penrickton Center for Blind Children, Leader Dogs, Paws With a Cause, Michigan Eye Bank, Bear Lake Camp, and many more,” Sharon Jordan-Crowley, a member and past president of the club said. “The Easter Egg Hunt is one of the times that we like to get out and help make smiles on all the kids' faces and enjoy seeing the laughter and fun that the kids have.”

Jordan-Crowley will be wearing the bunny costume on Saturday.

The cost of the event is free, though the Lions will be accepting money donations, along with donations of cell phones, eyeglasses and hearing aids. Children will also be allowed to take pictures with the Easter Bunny.

Rau said the event will be held rain or shine. The park is at 46640 Ann Arbor Trail, just east of Beck Road. For more information, contact Rau at 248-473-4569 or hrau@mi.rr.com.
