Plymouth Green Street Fair Ends

The annual Green Street Fair in downtown Plymouth is canceled for not bringing in enough revenue.

Downtown Plymouth's annual Green Street Fair in May will no longer kick off the warm weather event season.

After five years, the organizers are ending the event because it was not bringing in enough revenue, according to an article in HometownLife.com

The fair focused on re-use, recycling and other earth-friendly efforts.

“It was just an uphill battle,” Dianne Quinn, who is also the chief organizer of Art in the Park, told HometownLife. “We just worked way too hard and we didn't get anything.”

The cost of the fair averaged about $70,000 annually, and the money went to equipment rental, police and fire protection, private security, setup and cleanup and entertainment, according to the article.

Sorry to see the green street fair go. Could the City of Plymouth save money and bring back the fair using the Wayne County Sheriffs and not the over paid Plymouth Police? and there big 4x4 suv's. (The City of Plymouth has so many DIRT ROADS and FIELDS to PATROL)

How sad the Green St fair is canceled. I and many others really enjoyed it. It was educational, for kids and adults about how to be greener.

Why don't you add some money making events-- like a spaghetti dinner, bake sale, games....And ask for volunteers, then we won't need the nice Plymouth Police. Thank you.

I had a booth there for the past three years with the Michigan Industrial Hemp Education and Marketing Project (MI-HEMP). I'd like to think we helped educate many folks about the thousands of uses, benefits and real job creation opportunities from industrial hemp in the food, clothing, housing, automobile industries, etc.

I think there was a lot of potential there. Too bad they scrapped the whole thing. I enjoyed the vendors and the fun activities for kids. However, last year there were some petition bullies trying to get me sign something without letting me read it. In fact they refused to let me read it and said it took too much time....there was no one in line behind me! That kind of thing should have been weeded out by the organizers. I felt like that with a few of the booths. It kind of ruined the whole thing for me.
