Plymouth Township Man Reports Stolen Mail, Check Fraud
The following information was provided by Plymouth Township Police. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.
Plymouth Township Police met Feb. 21 with a man at the station for a report of check fraud, according to a police report.
The man told police between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., someone stole a business envelope from the mailbox at his home on Ann Arbor Trail containing a check written with his Bank of America account.
The man told police he had put a check in his mailbox at about 11 a.m. and, realizing it was President’s Day, his wife went to retrieve the envelope later in the day, but found it was missing, the report said.
The man told police he contacted Bank of America immediately and was told to wait a couple of days before placing a stop payment on the check.
The man told police he later learned someone had written a check under his account and passed it at a Target store in Jackson. He told police the bank said it will reimburse him the amount of the fraudulent check once it completes its investigation. He has since closed the account.
