The Plymouth Wildcats football team and boosters are hosting a toy and activity drive for the Bottomless Toy Chest through this week, according to an email by Booster President Todd McCall. 

The Bottomless Toy Chest is a non-profit organization devoted to delivering art projects, crafts and interactive toys to children hospitalized with cancer in the Detroit Metro area hospitals, McCall wrote. These toys or activities provide a simple, therapeutic way to redirect these children's thoughts away from the stressful and painful battle against cancer.

Items were accepted at the Plymouth freshmen and JV games on Sept. 13 and will be accepted at the Plymouth varsity game on Sept. 21, McCall wrote.

Donation boxes will be placed near the Wildcat merchandise tent. Donations can be dropped off at the Trading Post on Ann Arbor Road or in the General Office at Plymouth High School during regular school hours.

"Over the last three years since I’ve been the President of the Booster Club myself and Coach (Mike) Sawchuk have pushed the football team and Booster Club to get more involved in community activities," McCall wrote. "Our boys have been involved in the Salvation Army Rake 'n Go, ringing the bell during the Holidays, our Wildcat Hero of the Week during home games, just to name a few."

Requested items and activities include:

• Legos and Bionicles for older boys
• Nerf Basketball and hoop sets
• Handheld video games
• DVDs (G, PG and PG-13 only)
• Art Kits
• Remote-controlled vehicles and helicopters
• Science Kits
• 3-D brainteaser puzzles (such as those metal or wooden shapes that are fused together, but you have to separate them)
• Rubik’s cubes
• Sports trivia games
• iTune Cards
• Visa Gift Cards

All Toys must be new and unused, violent video games and books, toy guns, swords or projectile toys are not accepted. Donors are asked to refrain from donating candy, food, religious materials, or items exceeding $20-25. 

Although all other items are welcomed, the Bottomless Toy Chest is seeking items appropriate for teenaged boys and girls, as such items typically are the least donated. Monetary donations also are accepted.
