Should Gov. Rick Snyder Sign Concealed Carry Bill?

On Friday, a gunman killed at least 27 at a school in Newtown, CT. Meanwhile in Michigan, Gov. Snyder has a bill on his desk that would allow some concealed guns in schools. What do you think?

The Michigan Legislature on Friday approved a bill allowing those with additional training to carry concealed weapons into venues such as schools, day care centers, churches and sports stadiums, according to WDIV-TV in Detroit.

The question is especially timely after a gunman opened fire Friday in a school in Newtown, CT, killing at least 27 died in a shooting an an elementary school, including 18 children.

The bill awaits Gov. Rick Snyder's signature after it cleared the Republican-controlled House on Friday and the Senate on Thursday, WDIV-TV reported. Snyder told the station Friday he was not going to rush to sign it.

Do you really think this monster in Connecticut would have worried if he had the proper permits?

There is more to learn from this story before the Gun Grabbers get too excited. But just like the President “Never let a crisis go to waste”

Yes, he should sign it. Those teachers wishing to carry then may be able to protect themselves and their students in the event of further violence which we seen today in our schools.

There are INSANE people in EVERY profession. I know teachers that should NOT have guns PERMIT OR NOT.

Unfortunately more training is not going to prevent events like what happened yesterday. I am a proppent for the right to bear arms but I am unsure that schools are a place where guns belong. Perhaps it may have saved a few lives yesterday but we will never know. I believe people have the right to own and carry guns but what I would like to see tighter legislation on is the number of bullets a clip can carry for the joe blow that buys these weapons. It still may not stop this from happening but at some point there would have to be a clip change giving an opportunity for more people to escape to safety.

Is having elementary school teachers play Dirty Harry really the answer?

If the mom did not have semi-automatic weapons lying around the house, the killer would have had to get his own guns. That means more chances for someone to notice that he is insane, or more chances for him to screw up trying to obtain guns illegally and get caught.

If people need to carry a semiautomatic pistol to a school or stadium to feel safe, then we have some serious societal issues that won't be fixed through a personal arms race.

You have to wonder what the outcome would have been if some teachers or administrators were trained and armed on site. In 1997, a school shooting occurred in Pearl MS. The incident began on the morning of October 1, 1997 when Luke Woodham fatally stabbed and bludgeoned his mother, Mary Woodham, as she prepared for a morning jog. At his trial, Woodham claimed that he could not remember killing his mother. Woodham drove his mother's car to Pearl High School. Wearing an orange jumpsuit and a trench coat, he made no attempt to hide his rifle. When he entered the school, he fatally shot two students (one his former girlfriend). He then shot the Pearl High School assistant band director who was standing five feet away from the first two that were fatally shot. Woodham went on to wound seven others before leaving, intending to drive off campus and conduct another shooting at the nearby Pearl Junior High School.

However, assistant principal Joel Myrick had retrieved a .45 pistol from the glove compartment of his truck (it took him longer because he had to park off school grounds because of his firearm was not allowed on school property) and subdued Woodham inside his mother's car. Then Myrick demanded "Why did you shoot my kids?" to which Woodham replied, "Life has wronged me, sir."

If we keep the status quo, lock down all the schools like a prison then.

it is obvious us people that want to be able to carry are in the minority. This poll reflects that. To those who oppose this what would you do if you were in a permit holders position? It is your duty to protect your fellow people if the situation arises. Do you really want to stop the minority from exercising their rights? You know the majority is what allowed slavery.....don't be on the wrong side of history......that allowed more mass shootings.

The first responsibility of those teachers was to secure their students. From every account I have seen, all the shooting was over within 2-3 minutes. By the time a carrying teacher would have taken care of the students, gotten a gun and gone out into the hallway, the gunman had already taken his life.
