Tampered 'Treats' for Dogs Prompt Police Investigation

Police investigating incidents involving food items laced with sharp metal objects.

Dog owners in a Canton subdivision say their pets have been injured by sharp metal objects found in food placed on the ground around the neighborhood, according to a report from the Canton Observer.

According to the report, Canton Police are investigating a string of incidents related to the foreign object-laden food scattered in a common area in the neighborhood of Central Park South northwest of Geddes and Beck roads. Police say the incidents could lead to criminal charges, the report indicated.

Anastasia Bremmer told the Observer her two pit bull mix pets had costly surgery to remove needles ingested after eating sausage they found on the ground.

Always good to teach dogs to "drop it", as well as not to let them eat anything they find on the ground. I hope whoever is doing this gets the toughest penalties available. Horrible, just horrible that someone would be so evil-minded.

Athena - good advice. "Drop it" comes in handy whenever I have my dog on a walk, particularly if I'm throwing his waste bags in the trash and something scattered on the ground nearby gets his attention. The unfortunate thing is, some dogs are in such a hurry to eat whatever looks appealing, it's too late before you can check to see what it was.
