The University of Michigan Ice Carving Team, one of several local and regional ice-carving squads at Kellogg Park in Plymouth this weekend, raced the clock Saturday in the Plymouth Ice Festival's three-hour carving event.

Team member Zach Pomerantz said because U-M lacks a culinary school, his team carves for fun and has participates in the Plymouth festival each year.

Pomerantz carved an eagle, complete with a massive wingspan, within the alotted three-hour time period.

On Feb. 10, the team will participate in the annual Ice Carving Extravaganza in Ann Arbor, then the following weekend will hold its first on-campus carving competition.
