The staff of Espresso Elevado in Plymouth shares how to ensure a fresh cup of coffee at home.

For many shoppers, buying coffee hasn't always been a science. Those who aren't necessarily conoisseurs often will buy the largest, cheapest container of grounds from the local supermarket, using grounds from the same can for several weeks, if not months.

According to the staff at Espresso Elevado in Plymouth, however, there are better ways to enjoy coffee from home.

Teresa Pilarz, owner of Espresso Elevado, says to ensure a fresh cup, try buying freshly roasted beans. Her business roasts and sells its own beans, and roasters can be found in other towns throughout Metro Detroit, as well.

Because coffee is a perishable product that can go stale after about two weeks, Pilarz says to only buy what will be consumed in 5-7 days.
