Woman Arrested on Heroin Charges by Canton Police

The following information was provided by the Canton Township Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Canton Township Police were patrolling westbound Michigan Avenue near Haggerty Road on Sept. 1 when officers stopped a 1994 Mazda truck on a seatbelt violation, according to a police report.

Police checked the driver and saw he had five license suspensions, the most recent from October 2010 from Ypsilanti.  The man also had a conditional bond out from the 23rd District Court in Taylor specifying no contact with the woman who was a passenger in his truck.

Police arrested the man on charges of driving with a suspended license and violating his conditional bond.

When police questioned the passenger, she told police she had gotten high earlier in the day on heroin. She told police she did not have heroin with her, but had a needle in her purse that was capped.

When police found the needle, the woman told the officer she was aware she could be arrested for the needle, the report said, so she grabbed her bra and began to shake it and a small, folded-up piece of aluminum foil fell to the ground next to her feet that contained suspected heroin.

Police arrested the woman on charges of heroin possession.
