WSDP 88.1 FM Volunteers Get VIP Award
The Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Board of Education recognized volunteers for advising the students who run WSDP Radio at Plymouth-Canton Educational Park.
Volunteer in Public Schools (VIP) awards went to those who help the student-run radio station WSDP 88.1 FM at Plymouth-Canton Educational Park.
Treasurer Barry Simescu presented the award Tuesday night at the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Board of Eduation meeting to Elaine Kirchgatter and Rick Grezebick, who accepted it also on behalf of Jake Bugeja, Todd Chatman, Scott Herrold, June Kirchgatter and Mike Schulte.
Kirchgatter said the station was an important resource for news at the school. She said more than 700 students have participated at the station in the last 40 years.
"These are our unsung heroes," she said.
She praised manager Bill Keith for his dedication at the station.
"Bill Keith has done an incredible job in training them ... in broadcast and research skills," she said.
Keith said he and other staff at the Park have started teaching broadcast classes where students can further gain media and leadership skills.
