Michigan rockers the Verve Pipe headlined the second day of Green Street Fair festivities Saturday in downtown Plymouth, playing a mix of hit and family-geared songs. Hundreds crowded around the city's municipal stage near Kellogg Park on Saturday afternoon to catch a glimpse of the band, known for its hit single "The Freshman." The Green Street Fair, an eco-themed festival celebrating its fifth year in downtown Plymouth, enjoyed mild, sunny weather and a variety of food and merchandise vendors. The festival continues today from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Emagine, Canton Cinema to Hold Midnight Screenings of 'The Avengers'

Superhero movie based on the hit comic book will open Friday at 12:01 a.m. at local theaters.

The Avengers opens with a lot of hype, and it opens locally Friday at 12:01 a.m. at Emagine Canton and Canton Cinema. The midnight screenings include Emagine Canton's new large-format E3 screen. The superhero movie based on the hit comic book stars Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson. It opens the summer movie season, and it opens just a day before Free Comic Book Day. The Avengers generally has received good reviews, including a three-star review from Roger Ebert. Canton-Based Hip-Hop Dancer Cites Regional Influence

Salem grad Justin Antonio, 23, looks to support Michigan while furthering dance career.

For hip-hop dancer Justin Antonio of Canton, being from Michigan brings a real sense of identity to his act. Antonio, 23, dances in the close-knit, Detroit-area crew Stereo Junkies and was filming a solo dance video Friday in downtown Plymouth. "We just try to bring the dance community together in Detroit," Antonio said. "It's a very, very small community, but what our purpose is is to just exploit Detroit, and exploit all the good dancers out here because there's a lot of talent in Detroit that's just not seen." Fans of John Denver and Dan Fogelberg can celebrate the two musicians' song catalog Friday at the Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton. A tribute to the performers will take place from 8-10 p.m. Friday at the venue, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road. Ticket prices range from $26-30, and tickets are available at www.cantonvillagetheater.org. The Village Theater is a locally owned and operated theater. PHOTOS: Penn Theatre Marks Opening Day With Baseball Classic

Nonprofit theater screens 'Pride of the Yankees' to mark start of baseball season.

Baseball season is under way and the Penn Theatre got into the swing of Opening Day festivities in the Metro Detroit area Thursday by screening Pride of the Yankees, the first of its April baseball classic film series. The film depicts the life story of baseball legend Lou Gehrig, who fell terminally ill during a Hall of Fame career in which he played a then-record 2,130 consecutive games. On deck at the Penn for the rest of April: The Penn Theatre will follow April's baseball movies with classic Doris Day and James Stewart movies in May. 'Titanic' Returns to Local Theaters in 3D

The award-winning film is coming back to the big screen on Wednesday.

"Never let go." The infamous line from Titanic takes on new meaning this week as the film returns to theaters on Wednesday — this time in 3D. The film comes back to the big screen just in time for the 100-year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic on April 14-15. Titanic premiered in 1997 and went on to become the second-highest grossing film of all-time, making more than $1.8 billion worldwide. Critics loved the film just as much as fans, as proved by its 11 Oscar wins, including Best Picture. Besides getting a 3D makeover, the film will be largely the same as it was 15 years ago, with a PG-13 rating and a run time of more than three hours. Last Chance: Catch 'Pride of the Yankees' at Penn Theatre

Historic baseball movie has one-time screening as part of nonprofit movie house's month of baseball classics.

Opening Day is this week and if you're jonesing for some baseball action away from Comerica Park, the Penn Theatre kicks off its series of classic baseball films Thursday. Pride of the Yankees, a 1942 biopic of New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig starring Gary Cooper, plays 7 p.m. Thursday at the Penn, 760 Penniman Ave. in downtown Plymouth, for a one-time engagement. Photo Exhibit Commemorates 100 Years Since Titanic Disaster

Starring the Gallery in Northville hosts Titanic-themed exhibit from Plymouth photographer.

Plymouth photographer Philip Dattilo will bring a photo exhibit of Titanic proportions to Starring the Gallery in Plymouth. The gallery will host "Titanic: A Century to Remember," an exhibit of Dattilo's photos, beginning with an artist's reception from 6-9 p.m. on April 6 during Northville's First Friday Experience event. According to a news release from the gallery, the exhibit puts present-day photographs depicting scenes related to Titanic's history and short lifespan in its viewfinder. Dattilo has worked as a professional photographer for more than 30 years, the news release said. His photographs are on permanent display at the Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and the Charles H. …
