Compuware Arena Drive-In in Plymouth Opens This Weekend

The Avengers, Battleship among blockbuster films screening this weekend at drive-in.

As spring moves quickly into summer, the Compuware Arena Drive-In Movie Theatres starts another season with a two-day opening this Friday and Saturday. The drive-in – located at 14900 Beck Road in Plymouth Township – will continue with another three-day weekend May 25-27 before going to a seven-day-a-week operation June 8 through September 2. The movies showing this Friday and Saturday include: SCREEN 1: Dr. Seuss' The Lorax (PG), with The Three Stooges (PG). SCREEN 2: The Avengers (PG-13), with John Carter (PG-13). SCREEN 3: Battleship (PG-13), with This Means War (PG-13). When interior designer Brian Clay Collins  of Grosse Pointe embarks on his annual spring-clean at his northern Michigan home, it’s with glass cleaners, vinegar and lint-free towels in-hand, among other things. “The absolute requirement for clean wood floors is warm water with a bit of white vinegar, used with a big sponge rinsed frequently,” said Collins, who owns Brian Clay Collins Design. “This is all done, alas, on hands and knees!!” Like hundreds of other homeowners who now are focusing on sprucing up, freshening and deep-cleaning their homes, Collins swears by favorite products. Photos: Showcase Taste of Plymouth Draws Big Crowds

The 2012 Showcase Taste of Plymouth on Monday at the Inn at St. John's drew one of the event's largest-ever crowds as attendees sampled food and products from local businesses. The event, hosted by the Plymouth Community Chamber of Commerce, attracted a diverse selection of vendors such as 5ive Restaurant, Happy's Pizza, Zin Wine Bar and Restaurant and Compuware Arena, who arrived with product samples in tow ranging from sweets, hummus and ribs to Plymouth Whalers hockey cards. The chamber also used the event to award five $1,000 scholarships to local students. The organization also recognized volunteers of the year from the community's many service organizations. Vendors populate Gathering as farmers market opens in Plymouth.

Hundreds flocked to Kellogg Park in downtown Plymouth on Saturday as the 2012 Plymouth Farmers Market kicked off. Downtown staples such as Old World Olive Press and Perfectly Sweet Cakes and Desserts joined a variety of independent vendors to offer homemade goods to shoppers looking for some local flair. The farmers market will continue from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each Saturday, excluding weekends with holidays and special events downtown.

Perfectly Sweet Set to Open at New Downtown Plymouth Location

Sweets bakery opens at new downtown space Monday.

Something sweet is cooking in downtown Plymouth. Kurt Lienhard is set to unveil his new bakery space for Perfectly Sweet Cakes and Desserts, located at 470 Forest Ave. in downtown Plymouth, on Monday. Lienhard, who had run his business inside of Boule Artisan Bakery's downtown location since opening in 2011, said the new space will offer coffee and other drinks, outdoor seating, and the familiar Danishes, pastries, cakes, pies and soft german pretzels that customers already know and love. "I can't wait to show Plymouth and all of our customers the new space and all of our great products," he said. Plymouth Farmers Market Opens Today

Vendors to line Penniman Avenue this morning to peddle wares.

The Plymouth Farmers Market opens at 7:30 a.m. today at the Gathering pavilion alongside Kellogg Park in downtown Plymouth. The market runs until 12:30 p.m. and will run most Saturdays during the summer, excluding Art in the Park, holidays, and other weekends with conflicting downtown events. The market is free to attend.

Locals Can Sample Plymouth Eateries' Fare Monday at Showcase

Showcase Taste of Plymouth takes place Monday at the Inn at St. John's.

Those who attend Monday's Showcase Taste of Plymouth at the Inn at St. John's can sample food and services from 75 local vendors. The expo-type event, in its 23rd year, offers plenty of perks for the $10 admission price, according to Teri Fry from the Plymouth Community Chamber of Commerce. Fry said each vendor at the event — including Patch — will offer door prizes, while each participating restaurant and food-oriented business will offer samples of their edible fare. Those who give back to the community also will be honored, Fry said as the Chamber recognizes the year's top volunteers from local service clubs.
