5 Upcoming Activities in Canton for the Over 55 Crowd

Kick back, relax and enjoy a blockbuster movie or shoot some billiards at Summit on the Park.

Canton-area residents ages 55 and older can take advantage of more than half a dozen programs and activities by Canton Leisure Services' Senior Program.

The Senior Adult Program is located in the Parkview Room of Summit on the Park Community Center. Membership to the Summit is not a requirement for participation.

Here are five we found intriguing:

1. Low Vision Support Group

The group will meet at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 10. There is no charge for this monthly service.

2. "Oz the Great and Powerful"

The Canton Senior Center will screen "Oz the Great and Powerful" on Oct. 9 at 12:30 p.m. in the Parkview Room. The movie is about a small-time magician that is swept away to an enchanted land and is forced into a power struggle between three witches. Visitors should bring a sweater in case they get chilly.

3. Senior Singles Billiards Tournament

The Senior Center is holding a Senior Singles Billiards Tournament over two days: Wednesday, Oct. 16 and Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 8 a.m. Participants will play races to three and enjoy a light luncheon. Call 734-394-5485 to register by Monday, Oct. 14. Cost is $15 for members, $17 for residents and $20 for non-residents.

4. Stay Healthy

The Canton Senior Center will offer blood pressure checks by Oakwood and hearing tests by Zounds at 1 p.m. on Oct. 21. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is appreciated. There is no charge for this monthly service.

5. Sounds of Canton Fall Concert

The annual concert will take place at the Village Theater at Cherry Hill on Nov. 2 with performances at 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Summit or Village Theater box office. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be provided by Heartland Health Care Center. Tickets cost $8 for adults and seniors and $5 for children under 12.
