Canton Library's 5th Annual Diaper Driver Underway

Library hopes to set new collection record

The Canton Public Library will be accepting diapers of any kind, size or brand on Wednesday and Thursday as part of its 5th annual Diaper Drive to benefit the Detroit Area Diaper Bank, a Canton based nonprofit serving Metro Detroit.

Turn out is rather small compared to years past, according to library officials.

Last year, the library collected 38,954 diapers in two days and hopes to beat that total in 2013.

"We are thrilled that the Canton Library is running a diaper drive for the 5th year in a row to support our annual fall drive," said Marybeth Levine, Founder of the Detroit Area Diaper Bank. "This year's Stuff the Truck event will be crucial in helping us reach our bigger goal this fall, to collect 250,000 diapers by Thanksgiving. The library has already helped bring in more than 100,000 diapers to the Diaper Bank over the past four years, helping us help thousands of our neighbors in need. We're asking the community to come out and support us again this year and help us continue to make a difference with diapers across Metro Detroit."

The “Stuff the Truck” event will accept diapers during library business hours, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. The truck, donated by the Hulett family, owners of Fat Chef in a Little Coat, will be parked in the library lot and ready to accept donations until it is stuffed.

Diaper donations may be of any size or brand, baby through adult, even swim
diapers or other incontinent supplies. Open packages of diapers are accepted, if labeled with size.
