Local Attorney Supports New Plymouth CrossFit business

At Aaron J. Boria, PLLC, we believe that it is important to give back to our community. We also believe in fitness, which is why we are happy to feature CrossFit Forgiven as our first local business blog.

We interviewed Brent Gostomski, the co-founder of CrossFit Forgiven located at 40340 Five Mile Road, Plymouth, Michigan 48170. He and his partner, Marsha Ward are doing great things for the sport.

AB: Tell us about yourself, what is your background and how did you get into exercise?

BG: My name is Brent Gostomski.  My entire life has been dedicated to health, fitness and nutrition.  As a multi-sport athlete until graduation from college, I have been exposed to a multitude of different training regimens and techniques.

Brent received his bachelors of science in exercise and health science from Alma College.  He assumed the professional roles of personal trainer, nutritionist, exercise physiologist, and metabolic specialist throughout his eight years of wellness experience.

AB: What is CrossFit, and how is it different from aerobics or other gyms?

BG: CrossFit is the culmination of all proven fitness regimens tied in together.  It takes the best features of many training programs and applies them in a manner that allows any person at any fitness level to participate and ultimately reach a higher level of fitness as efficiently as possible. CrossFit is different from other types of exercise and even other gyms because of the intimacy shared between the gym and its members. CrossFit is a lifestyle that encompasses both physical and the mental aspects of a person’s well-being.  Good health is more than just using our muscles and eating right; with CrossFit, sleeping well and managing stress are just as important as the diet and exercise. We are a community that not only encourages healthy living, but interacts with each other in order to maintain the lifestyle for longevity.

AB: What makes CrossFit Forgiven different from other CrossFit gyms?

BG: I want to start out saying that all CrossFit gyms are great!  We all support one another and hold a high moral standard.  What separates CrossFit Forgiven is our specialties and programming.  The level of diversity in training and accreditation at CrossFit Forgiven is a major factor as to why we are different from any other gym out there, not just any other CrossFit.  We are also experts in corrective exercise as well as personal programming.  We have the unique ability to adjust to our members needs, not just give them exercise at random.  We are also very personal and discrete, meaning we will only cater to a membership of 75 people.  This maintains our sense of community and keeps participation, effort, and morale at a peak.

At CrossFit Forgiven, the goal is for us to enhance your life and community, not to pick your pockets. Unlike the unlimited or nothing pricing that most facilities stand by, we have a very simple philosophy; pay for what you use.  This allows us to truly fit into everyone’s schedule and budget.  Oh! and speaking of schedule… We’re open late….

AB: Are there other trainers at your gym? Who are they and what are their backgrounds?

BG: We also have Jazmin and Bruce.  Jazmin is a powerhouse Crossfit athlete who has been a successful personal trainer for eight years. Jazmin has a passion for health and fitness. Once she was introduced to CrossFit she fell in love with the sport and it changed her life. Within a year of dedication and 16 competitions later, she went on to become one of the top 50 athletes in the state of Michigan for 2012.  She has specific passion for the sport and community of CrossFit, and has a goal to reach as many people as possible with the joy that is CrossFit.

Bruce is a firefighter by profession and a CrossFitter by passion.  He implemented the fitness regimens for VanBuren Fire Department and has had a great deal of success in getting the township on board with a higher level of fitness for its heroes!!  I have known Bruce for over 15 years; he is a driving force for that which he is passionate about.

AB: Are you active in the local community? What kinds of things are you doing?

BG: We are a member of both the Plymouth and Livonia Chamber of Commerce.  We are going to be involved with a lot of local businesses. Keep in mind how new we are; keep tabs on us for what we will be involved within the next year.

AB: What are your hours?

BG: The hours are still evolving, meaning we will be adding additional classes as members need them.  Right now, we have a morning class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6 am, and then four evening classes starting on the hour from 5 until 8 pm.  On Tuesday and Thursday, we have class 4 classes from 5:30 - 9:30.

AB: So what is the pricing like?

BG: As far as price goes, we have a policy of pay for what you use…   so depending on if you want to show up once a week, twice a week, three times a week or more, determines how much you will pay.  Of course the concept of buying in bulk for a discount applies here as well.

We do not have a sign up fee or cancellation fee at our facility.  We feel that healthy living and exercise are a vital part of life, and if you need to stop doing those things you must have a pretty good reason for it.

We do however reward those who are committed.  Anyone who commits to 6 or 12 months of membership gets their dedication rewarded at the end of that 6 or 12 month term.  6 months of completed membership is rewarded with half off that last month.  12 months of full membership is rewarded with a free month.

Pricing ranges from $50 to $150.  Checkout the CrossFit Forgiven website for the specifics...

We also have special pricing for todays heroes (police, fire, etc).

AB: Can people come and try out your gym without paying the full month?

BG: We offer every person who walks into the door two weeks for NOTHING!  CrossFit is a lifestyle, but also must fit into an existing lifestyle.  We give you an opportunity to figure out how we fit in before you begin to invest in your new lifestyle. We are offering beginner scheduled classes now at 5 and 5:30 on their respective days to help break them in.
