Conversation on Muslim Women at Canton Public Library

Canton women lead a discussion of the accomplishments and challenges of being female and Muslim.

In celebration of Islam Awareness Week, the Muslim Community of Western Suburbs (MCWS) will host a forum on “Living as Muslim Women in Canton” on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the .

The conversation will explore the daily lives of business owners, engineers, students, mothers and others who also happen to be Muslim women in Canton.

The MCWS community outreach committee members organized the event as part of their work to provide programs that build community partnerships to support people living and serving in Canton and other surrounding areas, said Saara Patel, committee member, in an email to Patch on Wednesday.

The committee was formed because of the increased interest the general public has in American Muslims, according to its mission statement.

Guests will hear about the accomplishments and challenges of being Muslim in Canton from at least four panelists and a moderator. Speakers include Zaynab Salman, Sadia Shakir, Christina Rountree, Jabeen Hamzavi and moderator Heather Jackson, Patel wrote.

This is a free event in the Canton Public Library's community room and requires no registration.
