Dog Owner Finds Route Around Hot Weather

Kim Barduca adapted her daily routine to keep her dog out of the hottest weather.

This week, Kim Barduca of Canton has given up long walks with her dog, Kona, in favor of very short outings.

"He does not like the heat," she said Monday during a short stroll near her Cherry Village apartment.

Normally, she said, the 8-year-old German Shepherd mix prefers longs outings and she often takes him to Heritage Park for longer jaunts. Barduca said she carries a water bottle made just for dogs during those ventures.

But this week, she said, she waited until after sunset to walk Kona and they won't go far because otherwise, "he starts panting — it's just too much."
