Former Red Wings Osgood, Legace to Ring Salvation Army Bell in Plymouth

While the current NHL lockout between owners and players has jeopardized the 2012-13 NHL season, Plymouth hockey fans still can see some of their favorite Detroit Red Wings in action.

Plymouth resident Chris Osgood and Manny Legace, former Red Wings goaltenders, will man the red kettles instead of the goalposts from 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 11 to raise money for the Salvation Army. The former players will appear at the Kroger in Plymouth Township as the Red Wings compete for bragging rights across Metro Detroit to see which players can raise the most money for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign.

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock will join Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland, who is serving as Honorary Chairman of the 2012 Red Kettle Campaign for the seventh straight year, at Hiller’s Market in Northville from 4:30–6:30 p.m. Fans visiting Hockeytown Authentics in Troy between 4:30–6:30 p.m. can obtain an autograph from former players Chris Chelios and Kris Draper by making a $10 donation.

Former player Kirk Maltby and radio play-by-play announcer Ken Kal will bell ring from 5–7 p.m. at a Kroger in St. Clair Shores.

This season marks the seventh consecutive year the Detroit Red Wings and the Salvation Army are teaming up through the “Red Wings for Red Kettles” initiative to help the nonprofit reach its $8.5 million Red Kettle Campaign goal. The initiative has raised more than $45,000 for the charity since 2005.
