Get Ready for a Red Ryder Christmas at the Plymouth Historical Museum

The Plymouth Historical Museum has a nice holiday gift that's opening to the public Nov. 9: "A Red Ryder Christmas Story."

Or, to paraphrase Darrin McGavin's Mr. Parker in the now-classic film A Christmas Story: "It's a major exhibit."

"A Red Ryder Christmas Story" will run through Dec. 31, and is chock-full of nostalgia surrounding the beloved 1983 movie and Jean Shepherd's stories, from which the film is based.

Patrons will enjoy vignettes of scenes from the movie -- including the infamous leg lamp scene and Flick's tongue getting stuck to the lamp pole. In addition, items from the time period -- the late Great Depression and early World War II years -- will be displayed as well. The display is especially important to area history, since the Red Ryder BB gun that young Ralphie so coveted was originally sold by Daisy Manufacturing Co. of Plymouth.

Museum hours are 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, and $2 for students 6-17.
