“American Idol” Top 3 finalist Jena Irene Asciutto will return to Farmington Hills Saturday to perform before a hometown crowd.
The final three performers in the FOX network’s talent competition show return to their home communities every year and Asciutto, who performs as Jena Irene on the program, earned that right Thursday night. She, Caleb Johnson and Alex Preston are locked in a tight race to win “Idol” title in the season finale on May 21.
The festivities honoring the 17-year-old North Farmington High School senior begin at 2:30 p.m. with a half-hour parade that will run down 13 Mile Road between Orchard Lake Road and Farmington Road starting near Chesterbrook Road before ending at North Farmington High School, 32900 W 13 Mile Road in Farmington Hills.
Asciutto will then perform for her fans in a concert inside the North Farmington High School athletic stadium from 3:30 to 5 p.m. No backpacks or chairs will be allowed into the stadium. The concert is open to all of Jena's fans and there is no admission fee. "We are so excited to have Jena in the Top Three and look forward to celebrating her great accomplishment," said Farmington Public Schools Superintendent Susan H. Zurvalec.
The school district has been working closely with the city of Farmington Hills and its police and fire departments to prepare for the expected large crowds at the events.
"We can't thank everyone enough for all of their ef-forts and support for Jena,” said Diane Bauman, director of school/community relations for Farmington Public Schools.
