Michigan Postcard: Hunting Shack

Simple covers from the weather to nicer cabins are tucked away all around the state.

All across Michigan you can run across hunting shacks and cabins, some deep in the woods, others on the edge of a field off the highway. Some are very simple while others are a bit more comfortable.

Reader Krickett submitted this photo of a hunting shack in Dexter, MI.

ANIMAL RIGHTS Right way to kill them, Right way to clean them, and Right way to COOK THEM

To hold up PETA membership as a badge of honor in your defense of animals is like supplying the rope to a lynch mob. PETA takes in millions of dollars a year in the name of "rescuing" animels; yet the one and only animal shelter it runs (in Norfolk, VA) has an over 98% kill rate. PETA isn't about saving or protecting animals. It is about self loathing and hatred for the human race. The unbalanced rants and unsupportable statements of its members and founders speak volumes for it's real intentions. Try visiting petakillspets.com for a real viewpoint of the aims of animal rights groups. As for the statements that even in the thumb area of Michigan, there is no real need for hunting to control the deer population, that there exists sufficient browse in the field to support all the deer up here - wrong! Deer cannot browse on something buried under feet of snow, as was the case last winter! I live in the North Branch area, and every winter there is deer die-off up here due to starvation. Far more humane, a hunters bullet than the slow and agonizing death of sarvation. And yes, many of the farmers and others up here rely on hunting of game to feed their families. The working poor often don't qualify for public assistance.

I really enjoyed the photo, it reminded me of being "home" in Michigan.
