Plymouth-made Movies Show at Penn

Two movies with scenes filmed in Plymouth, including 'Scream 4,' are screened at the Penn Theater.

Two movies that had scenes filmed in Plymouth, Trust and Scream 4,have had screenings at this summer. Trust had its final showing last Thursday, and Scream 4 is screening this weekend, beginning Friday.

Trust stars Clive Owen and Catherine Keener as parents of a 14-year-old girl who falls victim to an online predator. The film was directed by David Schwimmer.

Scream 4 is the latest addition to the popular horror film series directed by Wes Craven. The plot surrounds the character Sidney Prescott, whose life has been repeatedly terrorized by numerous serial killers, all who wear the same ghostly mask in a continuing game of copycatting and one-upmanship.

Local residents like Sally McFall had seen the production crews filming around town and came out to the theater to see their city on the big screen.

"I wanted to support it because it was filmed here in Michigan," McFall said before watching 'Trust' at the Penn Theatre on June 30. "That was the main reason that we decided to come and see the movie."

Elaine Antczak is a huge Clive Owen fan and also went to see 'Trust' at Penn Theatre.

"I had to see it — even if it wasn't filmed here." Antczak said.

Ellen Elliott is the executive director for Friends of Penn, a nonprofit organization that runs the theater. She's the person who decides which movies are shown based on her experience with surveying which movies its patrons want to see. Most of the films that fit into this category are rated either 'G' or 'PG.'

"Neither one of these movies are what we call 'Penn movies,'" Elliott said. She decided to screen them "because they were filmed here and people want to see if they recognize the different locations."

Nearly 300 of the 405 seats were taken on the June 30 viewing of 'Trust.'

"Scream 4' will be shown at Penn Theater on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9:05 p.m., and also on Sunday at 5 p.m. and 7:05 p.m.

The film is rated R and runs 111 minutes.
