Plymouth Sculptor Featured at U-M Dearborn

Ann Smith will have work included in Open Competition 2011.

Plymouth sculptor Ann Smith will have work included in Open Competition 2011 at 's Berkowitz Galley, according to a news release. Her 7-foot-3 sculpture, Revolution Codex, will be featured.  It is constructed of reclaimed steel, wood, and typewriter parts, the news release said.

Juror B.B. Winslow will be including comments about Smith's work at the opening of the exhibition, the news release said.

The Alfred Berkowitz Gallery, on the third floor of the Mardigian Library, will present Open Competition 2011 Sept. 23 through Oct. 27, an exhibition that showcases and celebrates Michigan artists, the news release said.

The competition was open to the Michigan artists in both two- and three-dimensional works of art, the news release said.  Bruce B. Winslow, artist and the director of the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art of the Michigan Center for the Arts, was the juror for this competition. Winslow selected 59 works of art by 50 artists for inclusion in the exhibition, according to the news release. 

The Alfred Berkowitz Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
