Snyder-gate

Why, as a woodcock to mine own springe, Osric. I am justly killed with mine own treachery. (falls) Hamlet Act 5 Scene 2

Lately it seems that Governor Snyder is channeling his hero Richard Nixon (of Water-gate fame). Perhaps the aura of the political outsider nerd is wearing off thin.
We have had the NERD-Gate (the secret fund that Snyder was pressured into shutting down)
We have had Furniture-Gate (the rigging of furniture bids for the benefit of Snyders cousin)
We have had Road-Gate in which the governor was complicit in the use of road funds to reward Republican and punish Democratic districts
We have had Road-Gate II in which the State of Michigan has the LOWEST per capita spending on roads and is near the top of the list in states with the worst roads.
We have had Right to Work-Gate where the Governor claimed he did not have this on his agenda, but craftily used UAW President Bob King as a raison d'etre for signing this legislation.
Now as I have said in the past I think Snyder will win in the fall. This is because, in a Houdini like feat of magic, he and his Republicans in the Legislature managed to turn the misery of the economic recession into the fault of public employees and unions. They have been demonized and any group that is near them is leprosy unveiled. Last time I checked however, it was not a union or working person that designed bad cars or sold toxic mortgages packaged as securities.
Now the sunshine in all this is that politics is cyclical. This is most true on the national and state level. Carter-Reagan-Clinton etc. Back and forth. This is also true on the State level. At the township level things tend to stay the same. We are lucky in Canton at least, that our elected officials, mostly Republican have done a good job locally in running the show. However their counterparts in the legislature have proven themselves to be jackbooted ideologues the likes of which we have not seen in memory. (Perhaps Leni Riefenstahl can be summoned from the beyond to do a documentary on them)
Cyclical politics tells us that there will be a time again when Democrats will control both the Legislature and the Governors office. At that time there may be a bloodletting of biblical proportions, making Custers fate at Little Big Horn seem like tea with Little Bo Peep.
It would have been much better for the State had Republicans at that level governered for the good of all the State, not just to water their ideological thirst. They say its never too late to change, but outside today it is wickedly windy.

They that sow the wind, shall reap the whirlwind"
Hosea 8:7.
