Would You Like Some Whine With That Cheese? Democrats Cry Foul Over Walker Victory

Democrats get beat at their own game, and Obama should be worried.

Did Republicans buy the Recall Election in Wisconsin on Tuesday? If you listen to the Democrats, they most certainly did. If you were tuned in to MSNBC on election night, you heard the tearful voice of Ed Schultz claiming Democracy is dead, and the Republicans paid for it. Unions are doomed, and Republicans funded their demise. Rachel Maddow, who never likes to let the truth get in the way of the liberal narrative, brought out her charts and graphs and basically demonized the Republicans for having outraised and outspent the Democratic machine in Gov.  Scott Walker's decisive victory.

Every talking head at MSLSD blamed the Supreme Court decision in the Citizens United case, and they blamed Super Pacs. Democrats hate Super Pacs, and President Obama and the Democrats have been vocal opponents of Super PACs, as it is the one thing that levels the funding playing field between Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats have had their own personal Super Pac for as long as I have been around, and that is Big Unions. Case in point: In the Wisconsin Recall Election, Tom Barrett received over a million dollars, from teachers unions, SEIU, AFLCIO, and others from all over the country. From New York to Alaska union money flowed into this recall effort. Unions paid people to go out and get signatures on recall petitions, paid people to come to the state and protest, and paid to bus people to the polls. The Democrats cried about the Republicans "buying" the election, but I would say that the Republicans beat them at their own game.

Here is an uncomfortable truth that the folks at MSLSD failed to mention:

Barack Obama spent roughly $750 million in 2008, while John McCain spent roughly $200 million.

To summarize, the Democrats are having a hissyfit because the Republicans have decided to take a play right out of the Democrat playbook and use it against them. They are in a snit because in Wisconsin, the people supported a Governor who did exactly what he said he was going to do when he ran for Governor.

What should worry the Democrats is that Gov. Scott Walker won by a larger margin than when he was first elected, which means that more Americans are supporting policies of fiscal responsibility. What should worry President Obama is that the Democrats used the very same playbook that got him elected, and they got their butts handed to them. He can't go back to the Hope and Change thing because Americans won't buy that message again, so he better start trying to reinvent himself, and he does not have much time to do it.
