Commissioner Shannon Price To Speak At Senior Event On Scams & Identity Theft

The Plymouth Council on Aging will host Wayne County Commissioner, Shannon Price, who will speak about helping seniors protect themselves from various frauds, and scams.

The Plymouth Community Council on Aging will host Wayne County Commissioner, Shannon Price on Friday, April 11th at 11am-12pm at the Plymouth Community Cultural Center. The Presentation will be on “Scams and Frauds”. The Presentation overview will include subjects such as “Home Repair and Equity Scams, Identity Theft, Investment Fraud, Phone & Mail Scams and Residential Care Choices.”

I spoke with Mr. Price today, and he indicated that he was very interested in speaking at this event, because this is becoming a big problem for seniors, who are the biggest targets of these scam artists. Mr. Price had a conversation with Bobbie Pummill at the Plymouth Council on Aging, and suggested that he bring in a representative from Attorney General Bill Schuette's office to make a presentation.

He indicated to me that, “I'll bring in an expert from the AG's office, and I'll pop for the food and refreshments, and we'll help some folks understand how to protect themselves from these unscrupulous people.”

Mr. Price pointed out that recent scams in Canton involving people claiming to be IRS agents, and another scam, with people claiming to be representatives with DTE, have him concerned about the growth of this kind of crime.  He also noted that these crimes are hurting seniors who tend to be the most vulnerable to these types of scams.

This event is worthwhile for all to attend, and will be held on Friday, April 11th, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The Plymouth Cultural Center is at 525 Farmer Street in Plymouth.
