Bites Nearby: Simple Sandwich

Plymouth's downtown sandwich shop is simply sublime.

There isn’t much that’s more rewarding for foodies than drawing a knife through a freshly built sandwich – except, possibly, sitting down to enjoy it.

Simple foods like sandwiches give us that immediate sense of accomplishment, often bolstering our unsteady sense of culinary creativity.

A straightforward meal is exactly what Plymouth’s Simple Sandwich is all about. The downtown deli offers a variety of freshly baked breads and and a wide assortment of sandwich fillings.

Menu: Highlights of more than 30 unique sandwiches include Callie's Crush (red grape chicken salad mayo and bacon, on callah, a Jewish egg bread); The Wise Guy (rosemary-dusted baked Italian ham, mozzarella, tomato, oil and vinegar, on a ciabatta roll); and The Good Heart (a vegetarian favorite made with Havarti cheese, cucumber, lettuce, tomato, avocado and honey mustard, on whole wheat bread).

Ingredients are tucked between slices fresh-baked bread: White, wheat, pumpernickel and whole wheat rye, ciabatta, Kaiser, onion rolls or whole wheat lawash wraps.

Side orders include Orzo pasta and herb potato salads; chips, brownies, cookies. Squeezed lemonade and smoothies (strawberry, blueberry and peach) are made daily. Hot soups are on the winter menu, replaced by  gazpacho and cold cucumber soup in the warmer months.
