Comcast Announces On Demand Milestone

Cable provider records 20 billion views with service.

Cable provider Comcast, which has its Michigan headquarters in Plymouth, announced a milestone this week with its 20 billionth Xfinity On Demand view. 

Xfinity On Demand provides programming instantly for digital cable subscribers either for free or at a nominal, per-use fee. 

"I think that's one of the important things about On Demand is it's what you want to watch, when you want to watch it," said Patrick Paterno, a representative from Comcast.

He said the service has seen a boom in recent years.

"What it means to Comcast is we're able to give our customers endless choices and also fill their entertainment needs," he said.

The service is available with properly equipped digital cable boxes, online and through mobile phone applications for iPhone and Droid platforms, Paterno said.

According to a news release by Comcast, the service has expanded from fewer than 1,000 entertainment choices and 200 million views in 2003 to more than 25,000 content choices and 20 billion views to date. 

The news release also stated Comcast marked the milestone by launching its Xfinity On Demand awards, honoring hte top-performing movies, TV series, musical artists and other programming.
