Farmington Hills Man Satisfies Sweet Tooth of Farmers Market Patrons

Carl Carey is a Farmers Market veteran offering an array of baked goods, unique kennel corn

Take a minute or two to peruse the table that Carl Carey stations himself behind on Saturday mornings and it's easy to see why he is so popular.

The 24-year veteran of the Plymouth Farmers market has been a staple for local patrons seeking sweet creations, offering just about every kind of home-baked goods one could ask for.

Let's start with the muffins.

All 20 varieties of them. From basic blueberry and triple berry muffins that are often baked with four or five different berries to the kid-friendly M&M's muffins and the unique-flavored pumpkin and sweet potato creations, Carey's sweet stand runs the gamut.

In addition to the oversized muffins, there is a small collection of homemade muffin tops, made popular in the 1990s on the popular sitcom, Seinfeld. There are also cookies, brownies, danishes and other baked goods, which are also available in sugar free and reduced calorie forms.

But if watching your waistline isn't a concern, Carey has you covered.

"We have high calorie (baked goods) just in case you are so inclined," he said.

As popular as the homemade goods are, Carey also offers a unique kettle corn that's been popular for 13 years.

Carey, who makes the short commute each weekend from Farmington Hills, uses a blend of gourmet corn and pops it in 100 percent soy bean oil and topped with sea salt, making this kennel corn different than other varieties.

The popular treat is sold in small and large bags, perfect to take home or enjoy while spending the morning on the go.

"We use the best corn you can get,"he said. "It just melts in your mouth."

The Plymouth Farmer's Market operates on Saturdays between May and October. It runs from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Plymouth Gathering.
