Guess What's Coming to Plymouth Township?

Firehouse Subs will open this October.

Bradley Wilson, the former owner of Three Dog Bakery in Plymouth, is excited to be getting back into business with his family after selling the specialized pet store two years ago.

Wilson, his sister Pam, along with their father, will open up the first Firehouse Subs location in Wayne County inside the Plymouth Town Center on Ann Arbor Road, next to Batteries Plus and Grand Traverse Pie Company.

"We were looking for a new opportunity," Wilson said. "Firehouse came to our attention and I heard they were coming North, especially to Michigan. We visited one in Ohio and fell in love with the food and the brand overall."

The Firehouse Subs franchise was founded by former firefighters and brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen. In 2005, they created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation nonprofit organization to provide funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. Since then, the foundation has given $6.8 million to organizations in 38 states, including more than $44,000 in Michigan.

"Their story is an inspiration and it was attractive to all of us," Wilson said. "Everybody loves firefighters and police officers. And the work they do with the Public Safety Foundation is really, really nice."

Wilson said the foundation is part of what made the business so attractive to him and his family.

The first Firehouse Subs in Michigan opened in Brighton last February. According to the Firehouse Subs website, there are now currently six Michigan locations, with five locations - including Plymouth - coming soon.

Wilson said he is looking to open around Oct. 1. Interior renovations are set to begin this week.

Wilson's family is from Canton, and both his father and sister still live there. Wilson himself is a Westland resident. Wilson said they might look into expanding in Canton sometime down the road.

"We like the Plymouth area," he said. "We're really excited to be back in business -it's a family business - I've been doing this all my life."
